In Memory of Patrice Leraut (†)

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Mr. Patrice Leraut, who left us on 22 July.

We worked together with energy and passion on this remarkable series, The Lepidoptera of Europe and Neuropteroids of Europe. A tireless author, he continued his work until his very last days, completing the first volume of The Diptera of Europe. Those who had the privilege of working alongside him know how exceptional a person we have lost.

His ability to make the natural sciences accessible to the widest possible audience was the hallmark of a truly great man. Today, he joins those whom I consider his peers and whom I had the privilege of knowing: Gaëtan du Chatenet, Théodore Monod, Hubert Reeves, Jean Dorst…

My friend, you have left us, but your books will continue to pass on your passion, your knowledge, and your unique vision of the living world. In this way, your voice will continue, for many years to come, to inspire naturalists and awaken new vocations.
